Finding yourself dealing with ringing in your ears is always unpleasent and unwelcome. It can make you go from a happy person to a miserable person… fast.

But what are the causes of ringing in ears?

This condition (also known as tinnitus) affects many people and can have several factors as its cause.  Because of this it is important that you see a doctor if you develop ringing in your ears.

The first thing you need to do is to see a doctor, especially if you have not had the tinnitus treated yet.  A doctor will be able to tell you whether or not the ringing is caused by an ear infection or fluid and treat it.  Once your doctor rules these causes out, it is time to look at alternative therapies.

You can use melatonin, which seems to help, or many people have success with white noise thereapy, because it helps to dappen the sound particularly at night when you are trying to sleep.  Running a fan or using a white noise machine are easy and cost effective methods to try, and work for many people.
